This is the closest you
could ‘label’ this music. Other
things that come to mind are the generic ska punk words but this
band has chosen a route adapted from this which has given them
a fresh sound, at times soft enough to make you want to dance all
night,
but then just as you think you are safe a song heavy and epic enough
comes from nowhere to put you in the pit without a second thought.
Along with this the good old ska punk tracks are mixed in, making
this band one of the most original on the circuit. Referred to
as the British Slackers this band want to teach the world to dance!
Forming in 1997 in the Northern town of Huddersfield - Lubby Nugget
released their first demo cassette entitled "And You Know We
Are". This led to appearances on two DIY Punk compilations,
the Grub Records Cd "Digging It Up" and "Dondu Es
Tu Heruvos" on Outta Your Arse records.
With a ever growing following due to successful gigging the band
were invited to appear on a 7 inch single on the DIY label Potato
Print records alongside Funbug, Eastfield and Swaktang. Yet another
7inch followed "Lubby Nugget Versus Pedantics" on Swingin
Pigeon Records. The band also found time to release a limited edition
CDR "Ska-Punk Is Not A Crime" which the band sold on the
road while supporting the Toasters and [Spunge]. These tours helped
establish the band within the UK Ska scene as well as attracting
attention from Moon Ska Europe.Lubby Nugget joined the label along
side Scotland's Ex-Cathedra, Shootin Goon from Wales, Zen Baseballbat
from the Northwest of England and Salisbury's Uncle Brian. They released
their debut album "Subtle Crucial" and joined their fellow
stable mates on the ambitious yet successful "New Moon Rising
Tour". The UK's first ever Ska Punk tour which covered 18
dates playing to over 30000 people in all.
The tour firmly established that Ska Punk wasn't just only played
by American bands. Leading UK Rock mags Kerrang! And Metal Hammer
even got in on the act with the bands receiving rave reviews especially
Lubby Nugget.
In December the bands were back out on the road for the "New
Moon Re-union Tour". Lubby had now become a well established
live act and this lead to support slots with Mustard Plug, The
Mad caddies and [Spunge].In the spring of 2001 the band set out
on a
club tour of the UK culminating at the Salisbury Arts Centre playing
in front of 600 kids. It was the bands growing reputation that
led to an invitation as Special guests on the June 2001 Reel Big
Fish
Tour, impressing the crowds (who bought up the bands merchandise)
and Reel Big Fish who asked them to tour the USA with them.
In July it was back in the studio to record 5 new songs for their
split CD with Shootin Goon. Once again they went back on the road,
this time taking in Europe, with both band establishing themselves
as the UK's Top Ska -Punk acts.
With a new EP due for release on Good Clean Fun and more shows
to be played in 2003, it looks like this could be a good year for
Lubby!
